A sharia court in Minna in 2008 held Masaba in "ignitable scorn of religious laws and contracting unlawful marriage to 86 spouses". Yet, Masaba or "Baba" (father) as he was for the most part called, declined and demanded that no religious precepts were ruptured by him.
All his 86 spouses and 20 of their 170 youngsters dissented in support of him outside the Niger state service of equity. The case was later dropped.
